A groom-to-be's guide to wedding planning

You've presented the engagement ring and the date has been set, but don't think your role as the groom-to-be is to sit back and nod in agreement to the whirlwind of plans being made for the perfect Yadkin Valley wedding. Even with many of today's couples sharing the expense with both the bride's and groom's parents, there are a number of pieces couples won't want to overlook. And whether families follow tradition as to who pays for what, knowing what we offer at Coley Hall at The Liberty in Historic Downtown Elkin can help.

With its exposed beams, weathered wood and distressed brick reflecting its historic beginnings, Coley Hall is the perfect rustic chic venue in the NC Foothills for an engagement party, rehearsal dinner and the wedding ceremony itself.

Traditionally the bride's parents host an engagement party, but many couples today may choose to do this on their own. Or the groom's parents may decide to host such a party.  Living in different areas can have a bearing on who hosts and where. Having two such parties isn't out of the ordinary when the parents live in different areas.  If the Yadkin Valley is the destination for an engagement party, Coley Hall is a blank slate waiting for those special touches. And plans can be as simple or elaborate as the hosts wish.

The rehearsal dinner, which typically follows the wedding ceremony rehearsal and is held the day before the wedding, is traditionally planned and paid for by the groom's parents. How convenient to hold such a dinner at Coley Hall if the wedding is to be here the very next day. The guest list for the rehearsal dinner usually includes close family members and anyone participating in the wedding and their spouses or dates. Inviting out-of-town guests is also a nice gesture as a thank you for their travel to help you celebrate. The Roth Room at Coley Hall has ample space for 80 guests and is ideal for holding a rehearsal dinner. If you book Coley Hall for two days your rehearsal dinner will be in the Hall, then the Groom's parents can share in rent. Giving both families lots of time for decorating and so on. Liberty Catering can provide a wide array of cuisine styles, or you may want to bring in your own reputable caterer. And your guests can stay in the same room for rehearsal or rent the Roth Room— talk about elegant convenience!

Other parts of the ceremony traditionally handled by the groom and his family include the wedding rings, his wedding attire, accommodations for his groomsmen and other family members if needed, the officiant's fee and any expenses if invited by the groom's family, the marriage license, corsages for mothers and grandmothers, gifts for his groomsmen, wedding gift for his bride, gifts for the parents, and the honeymoon.

With everything at your fingertips, as much or as little as you need, let Coley Hall show you what a delight a wedding in the Yadkin Valley can be.
